This one must be Catholic, because it has a big white cross on its body. Nature can be so strange, right? I once read that these cross spiders eat their significant other after they’ve mated. Lovely …

So looking the opposite way inside our house, we have displayed our second wedding anniversary cards 💕

We actually handed them to each other during our vacation abroad, as August 14th this year coincided with our arrival in Croatia. It was kind of a shame, since the cards then basically remained locked in our luggage for two weeks, as we were scared of damaging them, or even losing them … which Gert ended up doing!!! He somehow realized while driving back home that he had left my card laying around in our hotel room in Germany. I could see his face turning all pale. I honestly felt too bad for him to even be angry. Luckily though, he e-mailed the hotel as soon as we arrived home and they answered saying they had found the card and would mail it to us right away. We received it a few days later. Whew! I’m about to leave an excellent review for them on Tripadvisor. Because not only was it excellent all around, but then the fact that they mailed us the card we had left behind was basically the cherry on top. For anyone who ever needs to spend the night in Munich, here’s their website. I seriously may end up making a whole separate post about it later with pictures and all, because I could go on and on about how good it was.

The card I made this year matches last year’s. My initial idea was to end up with a whole collection – many years from now – that has a nice consistent look, and could perhaps end up being framed together. The heart in the center is made of a different material each year, which matches the anniversary’s symbol. Last year was cotton, this year was paper, and next year will be leather. These things tend to vary per region, so I try to (somewhat) stick to the Belgian tradition. But even with this year, there are mixed opinions. Some say the second wedding anniversary is leather and the third is paper. Eh. Europeans at their finest … never agreeing on anything and thus agreeing to disagree, which results in keeping both, making it one confusing mess.

Anyway. More later!
