Oh my God, I’m in love! ♥︎
I was kind of totally wrong about his color. Goes to show that sometimes memory can play strange tricks. And add to that the fact that the pictures from our first visit weren’t very good, nor accurate … He’s more like a blonde / beige, with black hair in between that forms some nice dark shade around his head and back.
The weather was absolutely awful. It was cold, dark, it was pouring. The worst. So I wasn’t able to walk much with him outside before we brought him in. Things went perfect though. I couldn’t have asked for an easier, better behaved dog. He’s been so good from the second he walked in. He listens, he’s extremely calm and quiet, and basically just a dream to have around.
Right now, he’s still wearing a little diaper (lol). Lucretia, the breeder, said he will most likely only need it for a few weeks. There were a few females running around at her place, and with hormones running high, he started marking his territory. But since he’s the only dog here, his hormone levels should go back down within 2 to 3 weeks from now. At which point, he won’t need the diaper anymore. *At least I hope so* If the problem persists though, we’ll just have him neutered.
She advised us to confine him in a small area so that he wouldn’t feel too overwhelmed when running around in a big new living room. Since we were going to bring an adult dog home instead of a puppy, we hadn’t even considered buying a dog crate. So, we had to be creative … and used a baby playpen instead, which had been stored in the attic for a while. It worked brilliant and he loved it instantly. This is how we found Mr. Sleepy Head this morning:
The weather was so sunny today! Although a bit too cold for him to be out much without a coat. We’ll definitely need to get one some time this week. Then we’ll be able to go out for longer walks.
He’s been extremely well socialized. Lucretia did a great job raising him. I can’t wait to have more pictures of him and send them to her, because she seemed a bit emotional to see him go. I know it’s gotta be tough after 3 years. Harder than with young puppies. He’ll definitely go back to her place every once in a while though. One of the reasons why I wanted a dog from her kennel is because her place also functions as a chihuahua hotel. So we can bring him in whenever we go on vacation and can’t take him with us. It will be fun for him to go back there sometimes, and we won’t be worried, like we would be if we brought him to a place we don’t know and had to blindly trust.
Anyway, enough rambling for now. I need to go feed him, because I think he’s been so busy with his whole new environment, that he seems to forget to eat unless I remind him to!
