Prepping the yard for Fall

I’m so behind on decorating the house for Fall / Halloween. I cleaned up the patio this week and added a few new plants and some candles, to add a bit of light in the evening, as the days are getting shorter.

I have many more plans to decorate the exterior though. The weather forecast looks promising, so I’m ready to start sanding our bench and add a coat of fresh paint tomorrow. And we will definitely be buying big pumpkins next week to decorate the front of our garden shed. My mom also gave me a small patio table she was about to get rid of. I just need to sand it down and give it a new color. I can’t wait to share the final results!

Finally some sun

Good morning! It’s freezing outside, the grass is looking a bit white, but at least the sun is finally shining here. We were stuck with dark weather for two weeks. Yikes.

Wolf – our new little chihuahua friend – is doing very well. We’ve had him for about 5 weeks now, and he has learned all the good manners I had hoped for. No more accidents on the floor; he neatly does his business on the newspaper corner we’ve set up for him. I really pushed him to use it because he completely refuses to go outside in bad weather, and since bad weather is all we get here, there was no other option but to have him do his thing indoors.

It’s a bit more work on my part, because I have to clean it up right away every single time. But it does have its advantages: clean yard, clean paws, clean floors. I still push him to go out whenever I can, because a bit of fresh air is necessary. But at least it’s not a constant worry anymore.

He and Gert have both warmed up to each other:

^^ Such a loving father! Haha!

Wolf used to completely ignore him in the beginning. I think it’s due to the fact that he’s with me 24/7, while Gert comes and goes, and is never very busy with him. I feed him, play with him, go to places with him, talk to him all day … so yeah. I’m glad he’s bonding more with Gert now!

Beautiful Fall

The weather has been so nice this season! We’ve definitely had crappy days in between, but overall we can’t complain. It’s so bittersweet though when we realize we could have sat out with Sam in the yard, enjoying the last sun rays before Winter. On the other hand though, this situation would have been much more depressing with dark nasty weather. So I guess it depends on how you look at things …

Mushrooms are always ridiculous around our house lol But it does make for pretty pictures.

Meanwhile, I have mastered the art of keeping my mind so busy that it won’t dwell on the sadness. I’m determined to go forward with our lives and to focus on positive, fun things. Sooo … here is my new hobby:

I can already tell you, this is totally a temporary phase lol But that’s what works for me at the moment. Here’s my 500 pieces achievement. I have now stepped up my game a notch and have tackled a 1000 piece challenge. Gert likes to help out, and some evenings we sit in the living room and work on our puzzle instead of watching crap on TV.

I’m thinking about putting up the Christmas tree earlier this year. I swore last year that this Christmas would be extra fun, so whether the universe likes it or not, we are going to enjoy ourselves, damn it.
